Garden Design

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GARDEN

The garden originally consisted of a row of Poplars, a Beech Hedge, some climbing Roses, an Old Apple and a Walnut Tree.

We started creating the garden in March 1999, by removing some of the Poplars to open up the view to the paddock and moved part of the beech hedge to screen the Purple Meadow. We dug out the pond in April 1999 and planted the rear garden borders.

The front garden borders were started in October 2000 and completed in May 2001, a slow progression as I got more and more heavily pregnant, (Tilly was born at the end of June!) plus it was a wet spring! In October 2002 we planted the Purple Meadow and in the following summer 2003 Tilly and I created the stone parterre whilst I was pregnant with Florence! The Pavillion was completed in November 2003 and around that time I also planted the grassy curvaceous borders opposite. There is always plenty more to achieve but I feel we’ve got the bones of the garden in place now!
